Thinking of going to Japan but hesitant to purchase that $1200 plane ticket? I get it, that's a huge investment. And to think that that's only for the price of a plane ticket... sigh, goodbye savings.
So, you ask, is Japan really worth it? Or is it just a highly-overrated country with weird otakus and pikachu festivals?
Listed below are 12 reasons why your next trip to Japan would be every-cent-of-your-savings worth the visit. Because let's be honest, where else would you find real-life Mario Karts cruising down a busy street, or meet real geishas in a thousand-dollar kimono?
1. Food. Endless Amounts of Food.

Japan is the ultimate food heaven we've all been dreaming of. From sushi to ramen to wild-flavoured snacks, Japan's definitely got game when it comes to food. It's the only place in the world that can give you all-for-a-dollar sushi, or blue broth ramen, or fermented soy beans.
2. They Also Got Really Weird Cafes.

If you don't go to at least one of these weird cafes, can you really say you went to Japan? Pictured above is a snapshot from the "Kawaii Monster Cafe", one of many quirky cafes found in Shibuya, Tokyo.
3. You Can Spend Overnight in a Capsule. Or a Manga Cafe. Or a Temple.

There are many different ways you can spend overnight in Japan. Of course, there are mainstream options like hotels and Air B&Bs, but there are less conventional ones like the Capsule Hotel pictured above.
Or if you like manga, there are manga cafes around Japan that offer overnight services. These can be really cheap alternatives to a hotel room.
If you want a more traditional experience, you can even choose to stay over at a temple. Some temples in Japan offer "overnight" services, where you get to experience the life of a monk. And how many people can really say they've had this experience in their lifetime?!
4. It is Home to Many Temples and Shrines.

And speaking of temples, Japanese people take pride in their traditional architectures like "Kinkakuji", pictured above. As evident from the photo, this temple in Kyoto is famous for its pure-gold appearance.
5. And Also Embraces Their Quirky Culture.

Anime, Maid Cafes, cos-play... you name it. Japan is known to have a quirky side to their premodern culture and THEY ARE PROUD OF IT.
6. It is Breath-Takingly Beautiful.

From mountains to oceans to cherry-blossoms to bamboo forests, Japan has got it all. You can spend a day at Mount Fuji, the tallest and the most beautiful of all mountains (pictured above), or spend a day at the Shonan Beach among surfers. Your choice.
7. Shopping! Shopping! Shopping!

Where else will you get a pair of fish flip-flops or Tempura USB sticks? Shopping in Japan is next level.
8. It's a Cat Heaven.

Attention all cat-lovers: Japan is home to many cats. So many, in fact, that there are several known cat islands, the most famous one being "Tashiro-jima" of the Miyagi prefecture.(Apparently there are as many, if not more, cats as there are humans on the island)
9. They Value Traditions and Ceremonies.

From "sa-doh" (matcha ceremony) to "bu-yo" (Japanese dance), Japanese culture is passed down through all kinds of ceremonies and festivals.
In fact, there are many one-day events and trial lessons that are offered throughout Japan for tourists. These are fun activities for you to try with your family & travel buddies!
10. And Also Embraces the Future.

Japan prides itself with state-of-the-art, high-tech innovations that often take the world by the storm. From Sony Walkman to Omron's CEATEC robots, Japan has been one of the most innovative & sought-after tech-geeks in the world for many years.
11. They Take Relaxation to a Whole New Level.

Japan is a volcanic island, and that's why there are many naturally- occurring hot springs everywhere across the country. 30,000 to give you an approximate. In Japanese, we call these hot springs "onsen"(温泉).
There are many kinds of onsen, from one that is nicknamed "Hell Valley" due to its scorching hot water temperature (99 degrees, to be exact), to onsen theme parks like "Yunessun" where you get to experience obscure onsen like wine and coffee bath.
12. And It is One of the Safest Countries in the World!

In 2017, only three people were killed in separate, random shooting incidents in Japan, according to the National Police Agency. Yeah, not in a day, in a year. Gotta walk to your Air B&B at 2am in the morning all by yourself? No problem. It's really that safe in Japan.
Lastly...
Japan is a country that's got it all. From shopping to cultural experiences to nature walks along Mt. Fuji, your next trip to Japan has every ounce of potential to be one of the best vacations of your lifetime.
Now, time to book that flight. Have an amazing time!
